Brava

The flower island — Cape Verde's best-kept secret

Brava — overview

Brava is the smallest inhabited island in Cape Verde and the least touristic — a mountainous, misty hideaway of cobbled villages, flower gardens and steep trails. The capital Vila Nova Sintra sits at 500 m altitude in a ring of peaks and is widely considered the country's prettiest town. The island is famous for its poets and musicians (including Eugénio Tavares, whose morna lyrics are on every Cape Verdean's lips), and for its extraordinary variety of endemic plants. There is no airport: access is by a short, often rough ferry crossing from Fogo.
