After a six day sail from the canaries I was tired of preparing meals for me and the crew. I just wanted food that was local, straightforward and delicious. Well, hidden where most visitors won't find it is a real gem of a restaurant. Tradicional Timinha, run by Mery and her chef mother, Herminia, is the perfect place to enjoy local Cape Verdian cuisine. No need for a menu tell her what you like and let her cook. As a chef and restaurant owner these are experience that you always remember. So not miss this treat even if the local taxi drivers can't find it.

Food was excellent, unfortunately it was one of the more expensive meals we had. It stung a bit because locals were eating there and so we clearly were given a different price. It was all very nice, we talked with the owner for a while. so it was a suprise when it was triple the price of other dinners we've had. When there's no price outside you expect to be taken care of. Feels like the price was made up on the spot. Oh well. Still, great food.

I had an absolutely lovely evening with Mary and her family. As others have said, I wasn’t sure I had the right place at first because it is a quiet area, but there is a sign on the building for the name of their restaurant. Every part of the meal they served me was cooked perfectly, yams, rice, broccoli, beans, and the main course turned out to be reef shark! I’ve never eaten shark that tasted so good. Papaya jelly and a sweet bread dessert were lovely as well. If you are reading this, don’t worry, just go for a walk or a taxi ride and visit this family. They will feed you and they are fun to have a conversation with!

If you wanna experience a very local, simple but beautiful dinner, this is your place in Mindelo. Mary & her Mother are runnig this small restaurant. Usually they have 2 plates & dessert. No big choice of drinks but all you need between beer, wine & water. Enjoy small talks with Mary and a big plate of freshly cooked fish or meat, vergeterian option available. This place will take a piece of your heart!

We had a good traditional meal in this small restaurant. We had good local food and a nice chat with the woman who owns the house. We would definitely go there again.
