Taverna is a must-visit if you find yourself in Mindelo. It effortlessly blends the warm, soulful atmosphere of Cape Verde with the authentic, refined flavors of Italy.. The pasta is clearly made with love—perfectly al dente and seasoned to perfection. Whether you go for a classic Carbonara or their fresh seafood specials, the quality of ingredients shines through. We found the restaurant in a charming spot, it has a cozy yet vibrant energy. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. They made us feel like regulars from the moment we walked in in, balancing professional service with that famous Mindelo hospitality. An impressive selection of wines that paired beautifully with our meal. If you’re craving a break from the local (and delicious) cachupa for a night and want world-class Italian cuisine, Taverna is the place to be. Don't skip dessert—the Tiramisu is gorgeous.

I’m still dreaming about my meal at Taverna São Vicente — it was that good. As a gluten-free eater, I often approach pasta with caution… but here, every bite was perfection. The seafood pasta? Absolute heaven. Tender pasta, fresh, flavorful seafood, and a sauce that balanced richness with brightness — honestly, it could make anyone fall in love with gluten-free cooking. And the berry mousse… wow. Light, silky, and bursting with fresh berry flavor. It wasn’t just a dessert, it was a statement. A beautifully elegant finish that made me savor every spoonful. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and you can feel the love and care that goes into both the kitchen and the service. Rarely do dietary-friendly options taste this phenomenal — they’ve set a new standard. If you’re in Mindelo and want a meal that lingers in your memory long after the last bite, this is the place. Honestly, it deserves all the praise it can get.

one of the best restaurant - a mix of italian / capo verdian / kreole kitchen. not the cheapeast but high fresh quality. Catch of the day fish was very fresh. local black pork is heaven, desserts are classics on point. sometimes crowdy.

Terrible service. The first waitress told us there was no space for us, even though there where many free tables. The next waitress one minute later gave us a table and said they have many free tables tonight. We waited for two hours for our food, but they only brought the main courses and forgot the three starters that we ordered. We asked several times when the food will come only to hear that it will come soon. People who arrived an hour later got their food before us. Finally, when we said were leaving now, they brought us the food, but only the main dishes. When we wanted to leave, they tried to make us pay for the three starters we never got. They got upset when we tried to take them of the bill, but we insisted not to pay for food we never received. No one ever apologised to us or tried to make it up. Horrible experience which felt also a bit like scam.

Of course you cannot expect truly fine dining in the heart of a touristy resort-laden island. With that being said, the pasta was actually somewhat descent. The bruscetta was nothing but servable. At last, the pizza might aswell have been a thinly veiled frozen pizza. Even in a place like this it leaves a sour taste in your mouth to get served food this underwhelming while presenting itself as a legitimate restaurant. For somewhat descent pizza i‘d recommend the place next door.
