I spent a whole week in Boa Vista and had the chance to try several restaurants in Sal Rei. Mar Azul is the only one I went back to several times. It's not a fancy/classy restaurant but totally authentic, with fresh fish and ingredients at fair prices: you can choose from the dish of the day, which costs around €5/500ESC, to more elaborate dishes made with top-quality fish and higher prices that reflect the value of what you're eating. The chef is certified and one of the very few on the island to pay close attention to cross-contamination, a real paradise for those with allergies and intolerances. The dishes are prepared with great care and attention and convey the chef's love for his work, from the choice of ingredients to the plating and preparation. The kitchen is small, there are few stoves, and the chef works alone. If you are not the only customers, be patient and you will be rewarded, I promise. The owner is an eclectic and very friendly host, willing to explain the details of the dishes and accommodate personal needs/requests. The love for Angelo’s work is reflected in what we eat. This is food for the soul. Definitely a must.

A MUST VISIT IF YOU’RE IN BOA VISTA ✨ This place deserves SO much more recognition. It’s full of decorations and gives off a lovely Boa Vista vibe, beautiful shells, the atmosphere is amazing and the lunch and dinner we had here was by far the best food we’ve had since being here for the past 2 weeks. Angelo is a fantastic chef and Grazyna is an amazing hostess. Could not recommend this place more - it’s a beautiful hidden gem 💎

Nice last fish (took the grouper) in Sal Rei before my return home. The owner is very caring about your experience in her restaurant (like expecting time to be served… but I had time so it was ok to wait) and wants to provide the best advice to choose your meal. The veggie were also well cooked and spiced.

Very grateful to have trusted the positive reviews and enjoyed a laid back lunch at Mar Azul. Angelo prepared a soulful dish of the day: Tuna on a vegetables bed and a top garlic sauce presented in a mussel shell. The delightful hospitality makes this space a must-visit… despite the temporary construction work outside: the lovely people, the great flavours of the dishes and the pleasant music will make you forget about that and beyond.

An experience to remember 😍 This gem of a restaurant did not disappoint. From arriving to leaving we were made to feel so welcome. Given 5 🌟 service from the owners Angelo and Grace. The food fresh and locally sourced. We had the best seafood we had ever tasted. The drinks/cocktails made with fresh local fruit were a taste sensation. The most memorable experience on our first visit to Cape Verde (Sal Rai) thank you 😊 we will definitely be back 😍😍😍 Stew & Kaz xxx
