They have english-speaking waiters but the service is ridiculously slow. Be prepared to wait for an hour when the restaurant is half-full. The grilled fish with vegetables is surprisingly good tho the veggies are just plain boiled. Salad is simple and mediocre (over-seasoned with oil), but not bad.

The food was ok, but not reallt anything more than that. I had a cachupa refogada, which came with egg and a (really small) sausage. It's the first one I tried in Cabo Verde so I have nothing to compare it to, but it tasted alright. My husband ordered the chicken salad, which was more like some cut-up unseasoned veggies with chicken on top, there wasn't any seasoning and we had to request it specifically. The wait time wasn't really that long, even though all the tables outside were full. My biggest complaint is actually about the staff, who seem disorganised and untrained. Examples: 1) when we arrived to the restaurant, we said we needed a table for 2, and the waiter said we'd have to wait because they're all full. However there was one empty table and we asked what about that one, and the waiter was like, "oh right, sure, i didn't see it". 2) when we were ordering, we asked about the ingredients in each of the salads in the menu because they had only names listed, without any details. For one salad the waiter went to check with the kitchen, and for another he said "I don't know, I'm not the cook, I'm just the waiter" 🤣 3) also when ordering, we specifically asked about the dessert and decided right away what we will have, but asked that it be brought only after we finish our mains. The waiter said "yes of course, it's dessert", like it's self-evident. And then 15-ish minutes later another waiter proceeds to bring out the cachupa and the dessert at the same time (I wouldn't mind this otherwise, but this dessert should be eaten warm, so if they left it like that, it wouldn't be good by the time we finished the mains). 4) for drinks we ordered a bottle of water and a glass of wine. While the water arrived immediately, I was halfway through my meal before the wine arrived, and this was only after a reminder. 4) a simple request for some salt also needed a reminder in order to be fulfilled. However, to all this I do want to add thar the waiters were nice and did speak good english, but the restaurant would really benefit from training the staff more.

We came back after being at Maio. I took the carbonara kriola and it was amazing. My husband took the catcupa carne and he was also very happy. We also took the pastel upfront...

High-quality food and beautifully decorated. The cachupa is delicious, and the croquettes are also excellent

Our favorite spot in Praia during our recent vacation. The food is good, local fare. Hearty and well priced, and generously motioned. The fish is fresh as expected in Cape Verde, and the flavors were all nice. Drinks are good too, and just stopping for coffee at a table on the busy, walking street in the center of the Plato area is a pleasant time. My only problem with any of the food was that we found the proteins were often slightly overcooked. The chicken especially, but also the Tuna steak, which was seasoned beautifully, and had a great sear that was fantastic, was also just slightly overcooked and would have been spectacular with like maybe 2 minutes less on the grill. The service we got was the shining star however, and made up for any small deficiencies in the food or wait time (which sometimes/often happens in the Cape Verde dining experience). Everyone was kind, but Patrick especially is a shining star. We deliberately stopped in for dinner 2 or 3 times when we knew he was working because he was so kind and friendly. He seemed to genuinely enjoy meeting us, and helping us enjoy our meals. He was busy, but attentive. He was charming and seemed to really want to do his best to make us and all his customers happy. I cant express enough how much a server like him makes a simple meal feel special and just brightens and puts an extra touch on what was already a treat for us, just being on a vacation. I hope the restaurant sees what an asset he is to their business. We never went anywhere else even a second time, but we had 4 meals here in our one week in town. We were also fortunate enough to take Patrick out for lunch with us at a different place on our last day in town to thank him for making our vacation that much more enjoyable, and got to know him a little as a person, which added to our experience in general, and we have memories that will last forever. So happy to have encountered someone so professional and hard working at a restaurant, and also, to have the added bonus to connect with another human being, from literally the other side of the world and gain those extra memories, because as a server, he infuses his work with his humanity. I know this is obviously a personal experience that is obviously not going to apply to everyone who goes here, but I can guarantee that if you do go here. The food and ambiance are very much worth it. And if you have Patrick as your server, he will be kind, efficient, and friendly, and will make your time here that much more enjoyable. Recommend!
