Arrived in Santa Maria late evening and La Trattoria was the perfect start to the trip. My partner is vegetarian and as well as there being a couple of suitable dishes, they also offered to alter one of the specials to suit which was very kind. I had the special cuttlefish pasta with artichokes and pecorino cheese and my partner had the tomato rigatoni with burrata (I think). Both were excellent, pasta perfectly al dente and deliciously simple dishes. Wine was excellent and atmosphere was lovely. Prices were a little higher than other places but still reasonable, especially for the evident loveliness and all around quality. Highly recommend!

Food was good, especially the prawn risotto. A few negatives though - 500CVE for a small bottle of water is absolutely ridiculous - the steak we ordered medium rare came out completely raw. We sent it back to be cooked more and it came back cooked very unevenly - some bits still raw, others completely overdone. They don't slice it for you, and it had a lot of fat / chewy bits. For 45 euros this was pretty annoying. - the Italian staff are friendly but the waitress we had was pretty unfriendly. Asked for ketchup (appreciate this is an embarrassing request with steak but wanted it for the fries) and was rudely told 'no. This is an Italian restaurant.' It doesn't matter if you disagree with what someone politely asks for, you can still respond politely. Again - majority of dishes were great but let down by these aspects.

I booked this restaurant for my birthday, not only I give a 10 for the cuisine but the staff was super friendly, they even surprised me with a mini celebration, very thoughtful of the owner/manager, I thank them again if they pass by here ! I def recommend

We ordered the dish of the day (octopus) and a tuna steak. The octopus was very good, no complaints at all. Unfortunately, the tuna was extremely tough, almost impossible to cut with a knife and practically inedible (it felt as if it had been previously frozen or poorly prepared). We informed the staff and, without any hesitation, they immediately prepared a new tuna for us. The second one was noticeably better: not the best we’ve ever had, but perfectly acceptable. The soufflé dessert was great. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the staff were friendly and professional, especially in the way they handled the situation. For 1 mineral water, 2 main dishes and 1 dessert we paid €60. I wouldn’t complain about the price if everything had been on point, but for a restaurant with such a reputation, a dish like that should not be served. It’s a pity about that one plate, because the overall experience could have been great.

What an excellent experience to taste some of the best Italian food in this island!!! We reserved a table a few days ahead and were greeted and seated in no time! We chose food from the specials which would not be something we would normally choose - and we were delighted by! As we’ve discovered the wine list means ASK what is available A good and well priced wine/ drink choices. Overall good quantity and quality -,so pretty much a perfect meal.
