The hotel and staff were absolutely fantastic, we had taken our baby with us and they were always warming and friendly to him (and all babies/children at the hotel). The rooms were cleaned daily and were always spotless, along with being provided large bottles of water every day. The restaurant food was always cooked fresh (the cooks/chefs were always on display). There's entertainment on throughout the day and into the evening. We never had to wait more than 2 minutes at any given time to get served at the bar. There is also a beach which is shared between the Riu hotels which is included as part of your stay, there's also a bar which is part of your all inclusive stay. Walking into the town of Santa Maria from the hotel is roughly a 20-30 minute walk, or 5 euro in a taxi. It is generally safe walking into town and back, day or night, however, you will get the odd local walk up to you saying they seen you at the hotel and start walking with you into town. You can pay them no attention and they'll go away, however, they are friendly/helpful and only trying to provide for their family. They'll take you to where you want to go, but will take you to their market/stall once done. I'd recommend purchasing a small thing or two to help them. Overall, I'd highly recommend this hotel for any families with children as you won't be disappointed. ##PLEASE READ## If travelling with a baby and you're bringing a pram or stroller, bring a mosquito net as they do not sell them here. Make sure to bring enough baby wipes or you'll be roughly 5-7 euro a pack in town.

The staff are so friendly and helpful. The hotel rooms are a little tired, but cleaned everyday. Any problems with the room were rectified within an hour. The food was very good for the size of the hotel catering for All Inclusive. The grill resturant was great. Chinese/Asian style resturant had different cuisine. The modern cuisine restaurant was also above expectations. The grounds are clean and well tended. A great holiday, thank you.

A fabulous hotel in Sal. Starting to show its age but dont let that put you off. Relaxing atmosphere, great food, and just a happy place to be. Rooms are a great size and well laid out with plenty of storage. The jury is out on the beaded curtains which hide items within the large wardrobe, but it is definitely authentic. This is my 4th time in CV and I intend on returning. Location was marked down due to do 300m walk to the beautiful beaches. The reason for the walk is there is a turtle reserve between the hotel and the beach. No turtles in Feb though which may have gained it another star.

We had an amazing stay at Hotel Funana! The food was fantastic, fresh, varied, and delicious and the atmosphere around the hotel was always lively and welcoming. The rooms and grounds were clean and tidy, and there’s plenty of entertainment to keep everyone occupied, from evening shows to daytime activities. We also loved booking trips through the local vendors near the beach, which made exploring the area really easy and enjoyable. No complaints at all – a brilliant holiday experience. Highly recommend!

Myself and a friend stayed here and arrived on my birthday. They had left me a bottle of bubbly and listened to my request to have my bed upgraded to a king size which was great and thoughtful. There were however issues with the room which I wouldn't expect of a 5 star hotel i.e. the shower door was only held on at the top by 1 screw and was wonky, there was paint which was peeling, the doors do not block much noise, so you can hear other walking through the corridors. Also, there was a tree at the entrance to the building which dropped berries onto the floor, these berries were never cleared so you would end up walking these through to your room. The grounds were well kept and was a very nice environment, there were cleaners and ground keepers daily keeping it looking good. The buffet style food was good with a lot of choice, and I really liked the options at breakfast. We went to all 3 of the restaurants you have to book for; Kulinarium, Mambana and Mandalay and was disappointed with the food. The steaks I had were both overcooked and the sushi on offer at Mandalay was made with smoked salmon so I didn't enjoy what is my favourite food. I found the drink selection to be extremely limited, I would have liked to have seen more options for cocktails. The location of the hotel is amazing being right on the beach and having access to the water park of the next door hotel. It's only a quick 5 minutes taxi ride to Santa Maria which is only €5. The staff were brilliant, all were helpful and friendly and always smiling. Overall, I enjoyed my stay but wouldn't return but also wouldn't talk someone out of visiting if they have chosen to stay here, for some this place is perfect for them, it wasn't quite for me though.
