We had a wonderful stay at the Casamarel in Mindelo. It was so good, we extended by 2 extra nights. The hotel is beautifully located up on the hill above the city, with stunning views over Mindelo Bay and amazing sunsets. Our room was spacious, very clean, quiet, and well equipped, with a huge terrace that really made the most of the view (ask for Room nr 3 or 4). The Casamarel has a lot of charm and feels very personally run, by a lovely Latvian Australian lady. It’s a beautifully restored historic house, and you can sense the influence of a well-travelled owner in the attention to detail and overall atmosphere. We also appreciated the hotel’s clear commitment to sustainability, with thoughtful eco-friendly practices that don’t take anything away from comfort. The staff are incredibly friendly and genuinely welcoming. Everyone made us feel very much at home, with special thanks to Gerson, Eder, João, Eliane, Zukeika, Claudia, and especially Denise, who truly went out of her way to help us!! We also had dinner at the hotel restaurant (three times!) and can highly recommend it. The food was excellent and easily the best we had on São Vicente. A charming boutique hotel with great service, fantastic views, and a very relaxed atmosphere. We will happily return.

A charming and elegant hotel with lovely rooms, a calming atmosphere and fantastic views over Mindelo. The pool is a real treat, and the meals and drinks were the best we had on São Vicente. The staff are gracious and helpful. We didn't want to leave. I would absolutely stay here again and am already thinking about returning.

Very friendly, great value base for exploring Mindelo or laying over between flights and ferries. Room and communal terraces have super harbour views and good protection from the winter north-easterlies!

Great place to have dinner of spent a night when you're in Mindelo. The building has grandeur. It has been restored and redone in a perfect way, keeping the old combined with the new. Our room was spacious and clean. I only missed a painting on the white walls or a nice green plant. Breakfast and dinner are very good here. They serve meat you can't find anywhere else on this island. The owner is a very nice lady who greats her guests and helps them if necessary. I loved this place. Great view over the bay of Mindelo.

Really bad experience, the service is not good. We ask for a taxi at 8 am and breakfast at 7.30 am as they suggested as we had our flight early in the morning. We had to eat in 5 minutes as the reception never communicated this information to the restaurant and even eat the rest of food of a table served way before us. Taxi was not there as they never made the booking. No one was at the reception and we had to run from restaurant to call someone to help. In the end we managed to call a taxi ourselves to come at 8.30 am. Running late to the airport. The owner likes to walk around the table at dinner table making sure everything is good while the Staff is not well trained. It is not stressful to travel with a child. It is stressful that the hotel didn't booked the taxi they say they would book to go to the airport. Expensive hotel, in mindelo, they are much nicer hotel for better price. Price of this hotel is not good value giving service.
