A mini tropical paradise! Casa das Ilhas is a beautiful rustic hotel / guesthouse nestled in the middle of the stunning Paul valley. Rooms are set in amongst a terraced tropical garden with cobbled paths. They are basic but very comfortable. There is a tiny swimming pool with a glorious view down the valley and many of the rooms share the same view. Katelijna is an incredible host. She’s lived there for 20 years and knows everything there is to know about the area. She speaks English, Dutch, French, German, Portuguese and Kriolu fluently (and quite possibly more!) She gives brilliant recommendations on walks suitable to your level and will help you make arrangements to travel to the start of the walk or back from the end of your walk, arranging lunch along the way, transfers to the hotel and anything else you need as appropriate. Part of its charm is that it’s pretty remote - it’s a 15 minute steep hike up the hill to get to the hotel (although the accommodation will arrange for your bags to be carried up for you!). As such most people eat dinner there at a communal table - although you have the option to opt out of dinner if you want to go elsewhere. We had an absolutely amazing stay there and would highly recommend it to anybody looking for a base for hiking the valley. Thank you to Katelijne and her amazing team. Jij bent de beste!

Very friendly! We got some coffee for free, because we startet the way up in the mountains from the beach without any breakfast (nothing available). Nicy terrace & incredible view!

We had 5 amazing days at Casa das Ilhas. Katelijne is an excellent host, taking care of everyone with individual attention. The dinners were tasty. Every night she checks in with everyone concerning hiking and transport options. Location and views are epic. We’d definitely stay again and for longer

Wonderful experience. The whole place is a simple heaven on earth. Keep it simple and super nice. Great host and great staff always ready to help. Yes, you have to make a bit of a walk up to get there, but totally worth the reward after. We will come back!

Great great place!!! We enjoyed every second of our stay. Catherine and her team were incredibly helpful organizing the transfers. They took care of us and made us feel like home. Santo Antao and specially Pauls valley is an amazing place for trekking and nature lovers. Thank you!!!!
