Landing in Cape Verde is easy; the last 20 kilometres are where trips go sideways — no meter, no bus, a SIM card that doesn't work yet. Here's exactly how airport transfers and taxis work on each island, what they should cost, and how to have a driver waiting with your name from €10.

Taxi prices from each airport

AirportToTimeTypical daytime price
Sal (SID)Santa Maria20 min€15–20 (2,000 CVE+)
Praia (RAI), SantiagoPlateau / Palmarejo10–15 min€6–10
Boa Vista (BVC)Sal Rei10 min€8–12
São Vicente (VXE)Mindelo15 min€8–12

Prices are indicative, per car (not per person). Expect a surcharge of roughly 25–50% at night. Always agree the price before getting in — taxis have no meter.

The local alternative: aluguer minibuses

The blue-plate Hiace minibuses ("aluguer") are Cape Verde's shared transport: very cheap (€1–3), authentic — and unpredictable. They leave when full, don't really serve airports, and are tricky with luggage. Great for day trips once you're settled; not what you want after a red-eye flight with two suitcases.

Why book your transfer ahead

  • A driver waiting with your name — no negotiating at the kerb after a long flight, no surprise "tourist price".
  • A fixed price agreed in advance — from €10 depending on the route.
  • Night arrivals covered — many flights land late; pre-booked drivers actually show up.
  • One WhatsApp contact for the whole trip — the same team can then arrange your taxis to restaurants, excursions or the ferry.

Tell us your flight and destination on WhatsApp — our local concierge confirms a vetted driver and the exact price in minutes, free of charge.

Getting around once you're there

For Santiago, Fogo or Santo Antão, a rental car changes everything — see why renting a car is the best option or browse rentals from €50/day. For a full overview of ferries, internal flights and aluguers, read our Cape Verde transport guide.

FAQ — Taxis & transfers in Cape Verde

Are taxis safe in Cape Verde?

Yes, generally very safe. The only friction is pricing — agree it before departure, or pre-book a fixed price.

Do taxis take cards?

No — cash only, in escudos (CVE). Euros are often accepted at a rough 1:100 rate, rarely in your favour.

Is Uber available in Cape Verde?

No. It's taxis, aluguers, hotel shuttles — or a pre-booked private driver.

How early should I book a transfer?

A day ahead is plenty; same-day usually works too. Message us your flight number and we handle the rest.
